Applied Digital Skills: New Lessons and Rubrics

Announcing New Computer Science Research
In partnership with Gallup, Google recently released an education research brief on rural communities in the US. Our initial computer science (CS) education research explored challenges facing underrepresented populations and now we’ve expanded to include a deeper look by urbanicity in the U.S. with our research brief on rural/small-town communities. Our findings highlight that while many rural students, parents, and educators value CS and believe that it is important for students’ future careers, rural and small-town schools are less likely to have CS classes, clubs, or programs. The brief provides specific recommendations for schools in rural and small-town communities -- learn more at g.co/cseduresearch.

Common Sense Education's YouTube channel provides educators with digital learning tools that engage students and teach them how to explore the online world in a safe, responsible, respectful way. Videos include tips on teaching with technology, lessons on digital citizenship and ways teachers can protect students’ privacy on social media.

GeoGebra allows teachers and students to explore math in a way that connects numbers, functions, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and 3D math. On GeoGebra.org, search over 800,000 free, interactive materials, and connect with educators around the world.

Available for Chromebooks, EquatIO allows students to easily create mathematical equations, formulas, and quizzes. Type of handwrite virtually any mathematical expression directly on your keyboard or touchpad - there’s no need for any complicated code or programming. Earlier this summer, Google Arts & Culture launched 'We Wear Culture’, looking at the history of fashion and the stories behind what we wear. From the story of the Sari in India and lace making in Switzerland; this project covers a wide range of designers, fashion icons and subjects. Improve Collaboration with new Docs features
We recently rolled out new features for Docs, Sheets, and Slides to help you and your team collaborative more efficiently. Among the new features are improvements to versioning your Docs, bulk review suggested edits functionality, and the ability to view ‘clean versions’ of Docs without comments or suggested edits. Saying Goodbye to Flash in Chrome
Flash usage has seen a steady decline in recent years, as users have begun migrating to technologies that are faster, more power-efficient, and more secure. Chrome will gradually phase out Flash in the coming years, with a full removal toward the end of 2020. Learn more.
